Seriously, though, I'm thrilled beyond words! I have a great spot in my classroom that will be the new home for this Amy Stewart original (right above the supplies area, natch), and look forward to explaining its provenance for many years to come.
I teach English and History at a small private school in suburban DC; our students are all junior tennis players, a very interesting group of kids (some of whom I can get to care on any given day about, well, English and History). One of them read Girl Waits With Gun a few years ago for a summer reading assignment, as a matter of fact, which was also my (very enjoyable) introduction to your writing.
The painting arrived in my mail yesterday, and I'm seriously so thrilled. Looking forward to placing it in its place of honor in the classroom! (And I hope to see you at Politics and Prose in a couple of weeks.)
I’m considered elderly in some circles and I brighten up at compliments, but I also love to give compliments. I try to compliment someone every day. I get complimented quite often on my silver and lavender hair and I always look to see if someone is wearing pretty jewelry.
This is so sweet. I love that you illustrated their odd jobs, and I especially love Laurie's idea for complimenting the elderly. It's something I never thought of doing, but plan to now!
Ohmygosh, these stories are so good! The ants!! And even better with illustrations! I'll be in Portland at the end of the month and will stop in at Broadway Books to pick up your tree book!
I think you did a lovely job on the video! 🌳🌲
Fun Read.
I'd like to thank the Academy...

Thanks, Amy! Great fun...
Mark, what do you teach?

Wow that sounds like an interesting job!

That's great! Sorry it took so long--I was out of stamps, that's my only excuse
As the kids say: LOL. Who has stamps these days, anyway?

Amy, thank you so much - I love the terrifyingly large ant! I think it's going to look fabulous on my wall.
