Greetings from book tour…
Hi! I’ve completely lost track of what day it is, I’m not entirely sure what time zone I’m in, and all my clothes smell like the hotel shampoo I’ve been washing them in. I’ve also been delighted and surprised to meet many of you on the road! Thanks for bringing your friendly faces out into the world.
Here are a few pictures I drew this week. I only have a little pocket sketchbook and a couple of pens. The wisdom of this plan was seriously tested when I found myself with a couple hours to wander around the Missouri Botanical Garden, which was in full bloom:
… and when I landed in Miami, which is always an explosion of color. My publisher put me at the Biltmore, which is a fabulous coral-colored historic hotel with the most glorious swimming pool imaginable. When I pulled up in front of this place, I was stricken with this fear that my publisher would go bankrupt by stashing me there for two nights, but it turns out that it’s surprisingly cheap to visit Miami in hurricane season! Who knew?
Washington DC! Phoenix/Tempe! I’m coming to see you!
Hey, do you live in one of these places? Do you have friends or family who you might coax into attending? I would love to see your faces!
I’ll be at Politics & Prose tonight (that’s Friday, Aug 7 at 7 PM) and I’d be so happy if you’d join me.
On Wednesday, August 7 I’ll be at Changing Hands in Tempe, AZ. Hope to see you there!
Also, if you’re in my hometown of Portland, OR, I hope to see you on Monday, Aug 12 at 7 PM at the Burnside location.
Supporters are watching me sketch a New Mexico landscape while my friend drinks her morning coffee
Because I’m on the road right now, I’m sending out some sketching sessions that I filmed earlier in the year. I’m sketching on-site, talking through my process, and, in this case, showing you how I get a quick sketch done while I’m waiting for my friend to be ready to head out for the day. Also, it was freezing cold, which might be refreshing for some of you right now.
There’s also a whole archive of art lessons here, and you get all that for just a few bucks a month. Join us!
