Karen, you're our winner! I'm going to answer your question in my next newsletter (coming soon) and send you the book of your choice. I will email you about this also, but I thought I'd just try commenting here too, as I'm still getting the hang of all of Substack's features. Anyway, if you see this and want to get in touch with mailing address, etc., just visit amystewart.com/contact to email me.
Regarding your comment/question about making your newsletter about “something,” I love reading all the different, quirky things you write about. Though I will probably never take one of the art classes you write about, I like thinking I might one day, ha. I like reading about what you’re reading and your drink suggestions. So for me, I’d love for you keep it about all the things that interest you. Cause really, I find them all interesting, too.
In terms of what to put in a newsletter, what you already have is great! A little bit about life, a little bit about writing, and a little bit about interesting things you've stumbled upon. It makes for a nice read and one I look forward to!
Nice new format. I enjoy two other SubStack writers, one of whom I read every morning (Heather Cox Richardson), so I'm liking the new platform. I can't think of a question, but please know that should you get back into the mood for more Kopp drama, I'll be buying it on pub day!
Hi! I love your newsletters. They always inspire and delight me. I think that is a theme right there! Be interested! I signed up for one of your Udemy classes based on your newsletter and found my way to them because I am a big fan of the Kopp sisters, and you, too, of course. The new platform is easy and fun.

Hi Amy, writing from you from Bulgaria, where we just arrived. I like reading both the prosaic and the profound. About your writing and art process. What you struggle/suck at, especially in areas where you're now highly successful. What you're eating. How you channel your anger, which I can't imagine you don't have, given our current national situation. You mentioned sleep--what you think about when you can't sleep. I'll stop while I'm ahead! Cheers!
My inbox is filled with newsletters that are about something in particular. Politics, technology, health, dogs, cats, cooking, book arts, art materials. I watch YouTube about a great many subjects too. I also read blogs. With a few exceptions, they are "arms-length" information purveyors and I read them all and seldom notice when I miss one.
Those exceptions that I seek out are different because they are by people and share themselves with the reader. Fiona Dempster, an Australian artist and blogger and Emma LaFebvre a watercolorist teacher on Youtube are my favorites. While they do have a general subject, I actually get a bit of who they are as people. That's why I like the Kopp sisters series. While they are just characters in a book, they feel like they are real people with real personalities over time.
That is why I like the meander through your newsletter. It gives more than "how to" or "what is" or "when did" but also gives us a bit of "who" you are. A three dimensional person. (And I do get a bit of lovely, bright illustrations which I want to learn.)
I came here to say I love the content of your newsletters in whatever format and find my thoughts already echoing here. So Ditto the current responses.
Question about your art- specifically the birds. I like the idea of luring them with seeds or nuts but do you use online pictures as well? So tricky to them to sit for a drawing! ☺️
I loved the concertina sketchbook of flower sketches and drawings. Don't worry about making your newsletter about something, keep it just the way it is. I always get a chuckle, learn something new, and enjoy the variety. Newsletters are time consuming, and I appreciate you maintaining yours. Thank you.
I stumbled upon your books about the Kopp sisters after purchasing the Drunken Botanist (bartender/bar owner) and I'm so excited to get my first book! Mostly because I was actually born a Kopp sister! I told my my sister about these and she was also very excited. Thank you for this and also love reading your newsletter. Cheers!
Nice transition to Substack! I love reading your newsletter, and have found new beginnings for myself in them-- your butterfly painting class gave me courage to take a break from being so OCD about creativity; Your link today to Domestika brought me to a new bundle of classes and I feel excited rather than nervous about them; Your words, all your lovely words, fit me like that one sweatshirt I need when everyone else's words are wooly. Right on, Sister!

I always enjoy your newsletters on any platform, and am a serious Kopp sisters fan and promoter

Without giving too much away will you write about how Constance dies?

Fun fact - the cool kids have started calling concertina (formerly accordion-fold) books “leporello”
The bookseller spouse ❤️
Thank you spouse!
Amy, Love your newsletter! I feel like I am having a conversation with a interesting friend!
That's the idea!
