I love these examples, Amy. But most of all, I truly appreciate your generosity of spirit in how you share these, how you encourage others, and your willingness to help. Thanks for all this and keep it up.
I lived downtown for a year with a view of the Steel Bridge. I took a photo very morning of the bridge and posted it on Facebook. I still have the photos, of course. I will definitely now put them together in a photo book as you suggest. So I guess I was Artist-in-Residence of the Steel Bridge 2014-2015.
My granddaughter is 11 and has been wearing hats all her life. I've collected pictures of her through the years in hats and will make a Shutterfly book for her 12th birthday.
I had asked my MIL in lieu of a purchased gift if she could give us chapters of her life. She put together year after year of family history and invaluable information. If you’re thinking about writing a book about your life, please do!
I have written a book for children , and occasionally write poetry I want to publish too . Just don’t know how to go about it - self publishers want so much money , I can’t afford a literary agent , and big publishers don’t seem to want anything from unknowns - still I dream of having them all published , so that my son can say his mom wrote a book , I think that would make me feel he’d be proud of that !
I just read that there are 3 or 4 little Lego doors that open to a painting inside, embedded in flyer detritus on telephone poles — not trees! — in Portland. I will look for them when i visit!!
hi Amy-- just did one of your Udemy courses and had a question about the Art tool kit..I love it and may get one..just wondering if u think the mixing area is deep enough to use to mix colors and water thanks !
Yes, it is for me--but it's really meant as a travel palette and works better with small brushes and small sketchbooks. I can do a video where I actually give one a workout & show you how it does....
that would be fun..I have a few other small palettes already. but this one is so cool...I think I am obsessed with art supplies! there should be some kind of mental health doc for people like me..lol
Mostly I just share my photos on Instagram. It’s an artist in residency of things that catch my eye. Thank you for championing creativity and encouraging so many people to continue making the art that brings them joy.
Oh how this struck a cord...my parents have been gone for over 24 years, and they always gave what we lovingly called the "Appalachian Goodbye". That is where you say good bye in the kitchen with hugs, then you say it again in the garage, then you do it again while those leaving are getting into the car, then you stand and wave as they drive away.
I've been mulling over a few different books, both with photos. I have no idea where to start?
I will look forward to your post on writing books.
Thank you for this post Amy. I love all these ideas. I need to do something, one of these maybe a more, maybe something else. You've given me something to think about. I really love the idea for a residency if some kind.
My daughter Tansy always takes a picture of Mount Garfield whenever she comes back to town. I’ll have to suggest that she put all her Mount Garfield pictures together somehow. Now whenever I get back into town I send her a picture of Mount Garfield to let her know that I’ve made the trip safely.

Ah yes, I see the Fremont bridge from my window. You definitely develop a relationship with a bridge here in Portland!

Love that! You might be interested in Gayle Kabaker, who has painted her granddaughter basically since birth. If you're on Instagram, you can see many portraits of Mona here: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18045247870350723/
Soon I’ll be going out to my office in the barn for today’s arts residency. But between you and me, the teacher is an idiot.
hahaha I know what you mean!
Fantastic idea - tell your story, publish your photos...just do it.

Hi Amy, Thanks for sharing your "what to do with all the flyer photos" tips! I love our Portland flyers (flyertopia: Hawthorne and Division).
They're so creative. Then there's the staple-ridden poles that morph into textured metalic sculptures... 🤔.

I love this, Betty! I'll be on the lookout now!!
Totally!

What a great idea.
Little neighborhood outdoor Micro art galleries are also a great way to display your work !
