This is perfect and very timely! I am going to France next April for a pastel workshop and I am starting to learn French. I have the perfect little 6 x 6 w/c sketchbook and it will serve as my flash card/painting iconic French things book. How fun and what a great way to learn a language. Now I know Italian (enough to get by) and it’s already showing up in my French lessons! LOL. Thank you as always for great ideas.

This is brilliant!! I’m heading to Finland in the summer and have been using Duolingo— and I did already get a sketchbook for the trip. I’m def going to make some pages like this— your pages are beautiful btw :) Thank you!

I am so excited to see this. I have been studying Italian for years. Sometimes my handwritten notes are helpful but I think illustrating as I go (even though I am no artist) would bring the ideas and concepts alive and cement them in my memory in a whole new way. I find it hard to retain without constant practice but drawing becomes a form of practice -- a different one. I love this.

As others have said, great idea and very timely! I’m currently on a job in Mexico and want to start learning at least some Spanish as I’ll be spending time here occasionally over the next year. My wife and I just talked (literally yesterday) about doing this in DuoLingo but the sketchbook idea sounds like a great addition to that.

I recommend Coffee Break Spanish too.

I realize the point is to practice the language with words and art, but I'd love to learn from your Italian sketchbook. Lovely.

What a great idea, I could do this already since I’m living in a foreign country, but we visit France quite regularly. Thanks for sharing!

This is brilliant! I’m a terrible sketcher (I get too caught up in making it “perfect”), but this gave me the freedom to do a quick, wonky sketch & focus on the words & phrases. I’ve started a sketchbook for my upcoming trip to France so I can jog my memory of my long-ago high school French!
