I really appreciate you talking about how comparing your emotional state to itself was making you upset. It really resonates with me as I wade through my first pregnancy. I’ve been frustrated with my energy levels, but I now realize that what I’m with frustrated with are energy levels I once had verses what I have to work with right now. Thanks for the perspective!

Oh I totally get that! It’s a big part of mindfulness meditation—that we get this feeling of dissatisfaction because our life is in some way different from how we imagine it should be. But the only dissatisfaction comes from the fact that we are making this comparison! Stop comparing, look around, and you’re probably fine where you’re at. (I can see why this line came up in a book about disability—I can imagine how comparing yourself to others, or your former self, could be a source of stress when navigating a disability, too)

You are so right - being immersed in the process of seeing, feeling and making marks to express yourself is the prize. If the picture turns out well too - that's a bonus, but not the most important thing!

I started my daily drawing practice after retiring at age 62. After 18 months, I’m amazed by what I can (occasionally) produce! More importantly, I enjoy it very much.

I’ve always played an instrument, and I’m finding the process to be similar - mastering the basics and continuing to practice and to learn. Just gotta be patient and enjoy it as you go 😊

Oh yeah, it’s Sofia sparkling wine, comes in a little can with a pink straw. It’s not great wine but very picnic and camping friendly
