Hi Amy! I did this exercise and loved it! Thank you for sharing!

Oh wow, I'm so glad you jumped right in and tried it! I love doing leaves this time of year, and many of them end up getting cut up into notecards around the holidays. No matter how weird the leaf looks, it's always interesting and fun to send out to people.

I'm not an artist, but have artists in the family - the art gene skipped me. Really enjoy seeing the process and hearing the thoughts behind it. Love the idea of art as preferences. Gives me a better understanding of what I experience as a viewer. Thanks!

Thanks so much! And I do fervently believe that all you need to make art is an interest or a curiosity--no genes or so-called talent required. Having said that, some of us simply do not have the interest--I have zero interest in trekking through snow to the top of a mountain, for instance! So I won't. But I'm happy to look at other people's pictures of their big climb. I think a lot of us are that way with art of various kinds.

Hey, that's my mom! Hi mom!

I'm planning on doing these leaves with my 4-year-old daughter (Mary's granddaughter). She's going to have as much fun looking for the leaves as painting them.

Thanks for this, it was just the prompt I needed to dive into the inks and pens I have on hand. Also, thanks for the great tip on ordering samples, I have a basket going with them, but I see a few more in your swatches that look like colors I would use. Fun lesson!

I love it! Well, I'm very interested to see what you're doing with all those colored inks, so I hope you'll share!

Seems like a pretty safe space to do that!

What perfect timing! I am taking an art class that focuses on line and color—using watercolor and ink. The leaves here in WV are beautiful this year. I am going outside now to collect some for this project! Thanks for sharing the lesson 😊

This is great. I went outside to work in the garden but collected leaves and did drawing and painting instead. Good choice.

Love it!

I feel empowered to have a go. And I like the idea that we are already curating art when we pick up leaves!

Absolutely! Enjoy!

My 3-year old granddaughter, Azailia, and I watched your leaf painting tutorial together. Then we got out water colors and printed some simple leaf outlines to paint. Azailia proceeded to narrate her painting steps as she had just seen you do in the video. It was charming to hear.

This was one of the most satisfying things I've done in a long time. Spent days walking through leaves and selecting only a handful. By the time I finished the leaves were kind of dull and crunchy, but my drawings felt vibrant with fall color.

It is very satisfying, isn't it? I'm so glad you got something out of it. Clearly I'm going to have to do more like this one!

Loved the videos! Very inspiring. Sometimes all one needs is to just ‘do’ to get moving when least inspired, I think.
