I just finished reading Class Clown--that's a guy that has found the sweet spot in history to make his and our dreams come true. He has made me laugh when I really needed it.
I grew up reading Dave Barry too! Thankfully his column was syndicated in the San Jose Mercury News. I laughed when I read your bit about copying him. One little verbal tic I still use pretty frequently, when I get rambly and see people's eyes glazing over a bit: "My point (and I do have one) ..."
I look forward to reading your bird book because you always share important news. One early Saturday morning I was kayaking the Hillsborough River when a flock of white ibises took silent flight. Between the mist coming off the water and the birds like white flags, it was a perfect moment.
Love the ostrich photo! This summer I took myself on a tour of all the Oakland library branches and discovered that there used to be
Ostrich farms in Oakland. It made me not so secretly wish for an ostrich library mascot.
Dave Barry is one of my favorite humor writers.
As usual a great column with great sketches -- Now I have to go get busy reading The Feather Detective - interesting book
Loved this Amy!!
And bird history too! Substack is the best. Thanks!
Oooh thanks for all the good reads! I adore Dave Barry! I lived in weird and wacky Florida for twenty-three years and devoured his work.

Love this post, very inspiring, thank you.
Dave Barry is fantastic. Also fantastic: when my favorite unrelated things suddenly align. Very cool!
