" A painter couldn’t hire out her walks in the landscape or her preliminary sketches. I couldn’t hire out the research." Love this, Amy! And your paintings in this post are fantastic. I also love the challenge/idea to paint what's out my window - I'm going to do it, too! Thanks for the inspo! P.S. Congrats on your current book's progress. What a rock star.

The way you’ve explained this is so similar to my painting process. Sometimes I wish I was more intuitive and painted spontaneously without any planning, but those painting are always harder and more of a hot mess than the ones I sketch out and plan in advance!

Amy, I love hearing about your process and best wishes with your newest book.

I also love the idea about painting the window view - it's beautiful in every season, but especially so now with all the leaves.

I love the way you outline your process. Thank you. I’ve only written three books (plus one novel, languishing in the editing process) and it’s a hot mess.

Maybe I could try being more intentional. I like that idea.

I’m in Wyoming for a bit, visiting friends. Sad that I’ll miss your talk in SLC. So close…

Amy I LOVED your sharing of your writing process! It's made me want to write a book of my own - under your tutelage. Uh oh!

I finally decided I could afford to become a paid subscriber, so I'm now officially one of your groupies, though obviously I've unofficially been one for years.

You never cease to inspire and delight!

Thanks for sharing this, as a first time book writer I am oscillating with writing the first thought in the mind ( which needs to be rewritten from scratch almost always) and planning beforehand. I struggle with "when to stop?". For context, it is a travel memoir and I LOVE reading the genre so much that I have to at some point stop myself from "too much research" and start writing something .

I just became your paid subscriber. Which is funny. Is that what you were waiting for, before decided to shrink your publication schedule?
