Just pick up some leaves
Hello everyone! I am back from three weeks of traveling (and more travel sketching videos to come, as soon as I can edit them)—but meanwhile, let’s get started on a self-appointed artists residency of FALL!
If you live in a place where the leaves look like this, I am here to tell you that just picking up leaves is an art project.
The act of selecting—of choosing the ones you like, and leaving behind the ones you don’t—that is an act of art-making!
Something all artists do is make choices. “I like this, I don’t like that.” That’s how your art gets more real, and specific, and personal. More about this in weeks to come, but meanwhile:
Go outside! Pick up some leaves! Choose the ones you like and bring them home—not for any reason, not necessarily because you’re going to press them into a book or paint them or do anything at all with them, but because leaves are FREE and they’re just SITTING THERE and you can pick them up and carry them around with you.
