Look up at trees and make a painting

It’s a wonderful feeling, to just pause and look up at some trees. In this post on walking in the woods, I talked about how it can be very relaxing to go hang out with some trees, but only if you actually notice the trees!

Sometimes I walk into Forest Park for my morning walk, but my mind is so busy churning through its to-do list or mulling over emails I have to answer that it takes a few minutes for me to stop and think “oh wait. I’m here for the trees.”

Then I look up and see this:

and my dumb brain stops bothering me for a little while.

So! Step one is to go stretch out on the ground and look up at some trees. Take your sketchbook! Draw some little studies. Snap some photos. Draw some more.
