Following up on last my previous post in which I drew a scene from Porto, Portugal for Katie…here’s another Porto scene for Katie. I’m sending her both, because sometimes I get two ideas in my head and I want to do them both.
This is part of a new thing where I’ll paint a painting, mail it to you, and use the painting for a little art lesson. You can read all about that here if you’re interested. Also, from time to time I’ll just do these as a giveaway, so stay tuned for that possibility, too.
I decided to draw this with two colors of ink, a darker color for the shadow side of the image, and a lighter and sunnier color for the light side. My plan was to do minimal watercolor, just a few splashes.
This took me forty minutes, which I think is a pretty reasonable amount of time for a travel sketch. It was about 6x8, which is a little larger than what I’d do in a travel sketchbook, so there’s probably a thirty-minute version I could’ve done onsite in a smaller book.
