Hey everybody! Thanks so much for subscribing!

Many of you wrote me nice notes when you subscribed. I can’t figure out how to reply to those (still discovering how all this works), but thank you! It’s very exciting for me to think that we have a little art club going here.

I just want to tell you how very satisfying this whole thing is for me, and how much it recharges me, in that September-sharpened-pencil way of feeling recharged.

One of the frustrations of writing books for a living is that everything takes so long. You get an idea, noodle away at it for months, work on a proposal for many more months, hopefully find a publisher, do a year of research, another year of writing, another year of copyediting and production, then a year or so of book tour and promoting…for a thing that you were REALLY excited about several years ago!
