Once I started drawing my shoes, I realized that they each had some sort of story to tell. The shoes I bought for that trip. The shoes I hardly ever wear because I never go anyplace dressy. They’re all stories about my life, right?

So let’s draw our shoes! Get some out and line them up.

Start off by doing a simple outline in pen or pencil. If this seems challenging, go back and do a few of these blind contour and contour drawings, only do them with shoes instead of leaves. Now that you’re warmed up, give it a go.

Don’t worry if they look weird! Shoes are weird!

Once you have a row (or a grid, or a pile, you don’t have to line them up like I did), color them in. You’ll notice that I jazzed up the colors of mine for the purpose of the newsletter illustration. Be as realistic or un-realistic as you like, it’s your drawing.
