Kopp Sisters Literary Society: A New Book!
Kopp Sisters Literary Society
Dear Everyone,
It's been a while since you've heard from me, I know. I was trying to organize a package to send to each of you, but it got complicated because of the ongoing work-from-home situation for my publisher, and the fact that they have been bought by Harper Collins and everything's a bit topsy-turvy.
They're also not really printing advance copies right now. The reason is that the people they used to mail those copies to--reviewers, media people, and so on--are mostly working from home, so no one has the right address for anyone. But I wonder if they'll ever go back to mailing out as many galleys as they used to. It might be another one of those weird unexpected changes brought about by the pandemic.
So what I have for you is not nearly as cool as a box of stuff! It's a link. This is a pre-approved NetGalley link that will give you an ebook of Miss Kopp Investigates.
I do hope that at least some of you are able to use the link and enjoy the book! Your enthusiasm for these books--your reviews, your recommendations, your comments, mean so much to me and my publisher.
And Now for the Rest of the News...
Part of the reason you haven't heard from me is that I've been putting off telling you--or telling anyone, really--that I don't have another Kopp Sisters novel coming next year. I have left the Kopps in a very good place. When you get to the end of the book, you will see exactly what their future holds, and it is very true to life. It's almost a whole new series, just waiting to be written.
But for the moment, I'm not going to be writing it.
Part of the reason for that is that I needed a BIG BREAK, and of course the pandemic came along at that exact moment and I just figured what the hell, I'll take a break. For twenty years I've always had a book on the go, and I needed a REST. So I had one.
Another part of the reason is that my publisher was up for sale and I wasn't exactly sure who I'd be dealing with for the next book.
And part of it was that I'd given the Kopps nearly ten years of my life (it sounds so crazy to write that, but I first discovered Constance in January 2012, so there you go) and I just wondered if I shouldn't look around and see what else I wanted to do with the next decade of my life.
So. You're the first people I've told. I'm not sure why I feel so weird about it! I think it's partly because I don't know for sure what's happening next.
I am putting a book proposal together for something entirely new, but it's too early to talk about.
I do know that I want to SLOW DOWN and just work at a different pace than I used to. So whatever happens next, it's going to happen in a much more leisurely fashion. No more writing a book a year. For years I was the busiest person I knew, and I would like to not be so busy anymore. If I can't figure out how to have a nice leisurely life now, in my fifties, when am I going to figure it out?
So I want to THANK YOU for helping me to spread the word about the Kopps, and for being my sounding board and for meeting up with me in person when we could do that, and generally for being such a bright spot in the lonely and uncertain business that writing can be! All your reviews, comments, insights, and conversation have meant so much to me over the years.
This isn't good-bye, of course, but just...my endless gratitude!
but I do have this fabulous event coming up!
This is going out to my newsletter soon, but you'll get it first:
To celebrate the publication of the seventh Kopp Sisters novel, Miss Kopp Investigates, I'm going to hold a virtual event with my audiobook narrator, Christina Moore! Chris has been the voice of the Kopp sisters for every single novel, and she does an amazing job voicing those characters. She's a trained actor and she's native to that part of New Jersey, so she understands the accents.
In the old days, when we could travel and do events together, we used to do an event every year in New Jersey when the latest book came out. Chris would get up onstage and do a dramatic reading, and she always blew everyone away with her dynamic performance. So this time, we're doing it virtually so that you can all attend.
Invite your friends! Tell your book club! And if you know anyone who's a fan of audiobooks, this will be a fabulous opportunity to ask an audiobook narrator all your burning questions about the process of making an audiobook.
Go here to register. I cannot wait to see you all there!
as always, feel free to just hit reply to this email and write me back!
Stay well! Be happy! Read some books!
Cheers,
Amy
